Yle is Finland's national public service broadcasting company. Yle operates 4 national television channels and 6 radio channels and services complemented by 25 regional radio programmes. All Yle’s television channels are also available as simulcast HD-channels which cover some 85 per cent of the population. All of Yle´s channels are streamed in Yle Areena.

Antenna households switched to digital TV in September 2007 and cable TV households in March 2008.

Yle's operations are financed by Public broadcasting tax which replaced TV licenses at the beginning of 2013. The maximum amount of this tax is €143 per year. The company is 99.9 % state-owned and supervised by an Administrative Council appointed by Parliament, and operates under the Act on Yleisradio Oy.
