To aid the unique identification of DVB broadcasts, DVB networks and MHP applications, the DVB Project Office acts as a registration authority for all DVB Identifiers.

DVB broadcasts around the world over satellite, cable or terrestrial networks use DVB’s Service Information standard to help receivers automatically tune to available broadcasts.

DVB-SI uses a registration mechanism for networks carrying DVB services, the broadcasts on those networks. In addition, DVB registers organisations delivering private data and conditional access on DVB networks.
