Federal Office for Communications (OFCOM Switzerland
Website: www.bakom.ch
At its creation in 1992, OFCOM was assigned two major tasks: to regulate the radio and television sectors, and to establish the conditions needed to open up the telecommunications market. Today OFCOM oversees radio and television, radiocommunications, and telecommunications services and telecommunications installations. It enables efficient competition to take place and guarantees that market forces will have full play. Situated within the Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications, OFCOM attends to these matters for the Federal Council and the Federal Communications Commission while fulfilling an advisory and co-ordinating function for the public and policymakers. It also guarantees that basic services will be provided in all parts of the country and for all sections of the population.
