TM-MUG

The primary mission of the MHP Umbrella Group is to create and maintain the Globally Executable MHP, or GEM specification.  GEM provides a "common core" of APIs and semantic guarantees for a Java-based platform for interactivity connected with television.  It has been adopted in the Blu-Ray optical disc format, OCAP and ACAP in the US, ARIB B.23 for Japanese terrestrial TV, Korean GEM-IPTV and the Open IPTV forum.

GEM is the primary middleware specification of the DVB, MHP is the GEM-compliant terminal specification for DVB services. GEM's evolution continues to address new use cases and target markets such as hybrid Broadcast/Broadband and OTT.

MUG's membership and document archive are open to representatives of all members of the DVB Project.

MUG  has an open subgroup for GEM adopters in other geographies and organizations, which is open to members outside the DVB Project to support  the GEM adopters in other target markets such as Blu-ray, tru2way, ARIB, ACAP and others. Contact the group chair or dvb@dvb.org for more information.
