DTT update
Digital Terrestrial Television using DVB-T was introduced in the country in 2009 and DVB-H has also been on trial in Tehran since 2009.
At his time 32 DVB-T transmitters are being installed in Iran covering 36% of the population with two multiplexes which will contain 16 DTT channels coded using MPEG-4, H.264.AVC and 10 radio channels. The current plan is to increase the number of High Power DTT transmitters to 75. This will cover 70% of the population. There will also be 500 medium power sites and 6000 low power sites to convert.
The Second International Conference of New Broadcasting: Opportunities and Challenges 2012 (BOC2012) will be held in Tehran, Iran, from the 16-18 January 2012. It will focus on the theme of Digital Television Broadcasting in Analogue to Digital Transition

Iran to launch 8 DTT channels
The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) is planning to launch eight digital television channels with various types of programmes. IRIB chief Ezzatollah Zarghami announced. He went on to say that the new channels will cover a wide range of entertainment, news, educational and scientific programmes and stressed the great potential of national channels in producing diverse programmes.
IRIB’s achievements and new plans were discussed during the 24th meeting on media technologies in Tehran.
The IRIB chief also pointed out that promoting the programmes’ contents, improving graphical attractions and monitoring the producing systems are among the major priorities of the organisation. IRIB recently launched its first teleshopping channel offering a broad range of Iranian products to consumers.

DVB-T Digital TV Production Line Inaugurated
Minister of Industries and Mine, Ali-Akbar Mehrabian, has inaugurated Iran’s first digital TV production line in Savojbolagh, Alborz province.
Iranian brand LCD and LED TVs in various sizes (32-55 inch) will be used to receive DVB-T, DTT broadcasts in the best quality, IRIB reported.
Domestic producers have planned to produce at least 10 million DVB-T Digital TV receivers.
Iran chose DVB-T as its DTT standard in 2001.
