TRA opens consultation on frequency spectrum
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority in Bahrain has opened a consultation on the current and future usage requirements for the radio-frequency spectrum and how the spectrum should be managed.
The consultation document seeks to better understand the potential use of frequencies from 500kHz to 86GHz, including the so called digital dividend (790-862MHz) released by the transition to Digital Terrestrial services. It also addresses spectrum rights and policy, licensing issues, the migration of spectrum users and appropriate next steps.
The consultation is open until 14 February 2010.

99% of Bahrain homes have satellite TV

Nearly every home in Bahrain has satellite TV according to a new survey recently highlighted in the Bahrain newspaper Gulf Daily, reports Broadband TV News.
The Bahrain Media Survey 2008, which was undertaken by the Arab Advisers Group, says that there are now satellite receivers in 98.9% of Bahrain’s households and that 26% of viewers watch pay-TV.
The fieldwork for the survey was conducted between August 9th-20th 2008, by face-to-face interviews with 550 respondents from different households.
47.6% of male TV viewers said they watched sport, compared with 20.8% of female viewers.
Free-to-air satellite TV is also popular, but sports content is the main driver for pay-TV subscriptions
