DVB and MHP are registered trademarks of the DVB Project and are managed by the DVB Project Office. Use of these trademarks, both the name mark and the logo mark, are subject to a number of rules and require the approval of the DVB Project Office.
Wherever the trademarks are used in relation to a product - be it a broadcast, a service, an application or equipment – and thus imply compliance of that product with DVB Standards, the product must be registered with the DVB Project Office by means of a Declaration of Conformity. This registration process is on-line.
Use of the MHP logo in relation to a product is restricted to those products which have successfully completed the MHP Test Suite and have fulfilled all stipulations of the MHP Mark License Agreement. For more information on this topic can be found on the MHP website.
DVB Sub-brand Logos
The DVB Project Office has also drawn up a series of sub-brand logos derived from the DVB logo which were developed to differentiate between different DVB standards and specifications, e.g. DVB-H, DVB-T, DVB-S2, etc... They are intended to be used only in the context of an explanation of the particular technology in question and never in relation to a particular product or group of products. These should be used only in limited circumstances in which they can be used are described in the following guidelines, (updated November 2005):
The DVB sub-brand logos may never appear on any product, its packaging, or its datasheet. The only logo that can be used in association with a product is the DVB logo, and then only when the product has been registered on the DVB website.
The DVB sub-brand logos may be used only by DVB members in the context of the explanation or promotion of a particular DVB technology in presentations, publications or on graphics panels at tradeshows. Care must be taken not to associate the sub-brand logo with any specific product or products.
All use of the DVB logo or sub-brand logos must be accompanied by a trademark acknowledgement, i.e. DVB is a registered trademark of the DVB Project or a circled "R" (DVB®-H)
The DVB sub-brand logos may only be used by non-members of the DVB Project on receipt of written permission from the DVB Project Office. Such requests will be considered on a case by case basis.
DVB retains the services of a company to assist with the policing of logo use and will pursue any organisation, member or non-member, seen to be using DVB logos inappropriately.
The DVB Project Office retains the right to withdraw permission to use the DVB logo.
Domain Names with "DVB"
As owners of the DVB trademark and in an effort to avoid confusion in the marketplace, the DVB Office discourages the use of the name DVB in all top level domain names and CC extensions of entities engaged in digital television and associated industries. This is particularly the case for domain names which start with the letters "dvb" (e.g. dvbchina, dvbsettopbox, etc.).
